The dye, Rubia Red, is extracted from the plant Rubia tinctorum L. , or "Madder". Madder is a perennial, which belongs to the Rubiaceae family, the family of star leafed plants. Madder grows to between 60 to 100 cm and when in bloom, has small yellow flowers. The relatively large root formations can be found in the ground. The dye is extracted from these roots. The Rubia madder varieties are protected by cultivation rights. What's more, cultivation is registered from beginning to end. In this way, and thanks to a production process developed in-house, Rubia can supply an extremely homogenous, consistent, high quality vegetable dye.
